Crystal Akers

Crystal and her husband, Chris, have homeschooled from the beginning. They have four children and enjoy seeing them grow in the Lord and in wisdom-although Crystal is still not too sure about the growing in stature part! Chris and Crystal have been involved with GSCHE since its founding and have served in various leadership roles since 2007. They have a heart to see other homeschool parents released into what God has called them and free to lead their children, including their education.

Mary Morse

I have been homeschooling since 1990. My husband, Steve, son Chance, and I moved to Sylva from Knoxville, Tennessee, in 2013 when Steve took a position at WCU. I was very active with a large homeschool co-op in Tennessee and have taught a variety of homeschool classes. I recently completed my Ph.D. in Education at the University of Tennessee.

Kristy Nickles

This will be my seventh year homeschooling my three children - Stephen - 6th grade, Lydia – 3nd grade, and Philip - age 5. Before kids, I earned a BS in biochemistry and MS in genetics. My plan had been a career in genetic research, but my time in graduate school helped me see that I could never be as fulfilled by that work as I am now by my family! I moved to Jackson County 10 years ago when my husband, Lee, began a job at WCU.
